I gave you a terrible preview so that these finished Valentines Heart Cookies and photos will look THAT MUCH BETTER. (Right?) This is the first installment of my easy Valentines Day treats and ideas. It’s your basic sugar cookie…with a peppermint twist. I used my go-to sugar cookie recipe (find my decorating tips here!) and then some Andés peppermint pieces which I found after Christmas.
Tip: The after-Christmas clearance sales are a great place to start getting ready for Valentines Day! I stocked up on several kinds of peppermint and mint baking chips. A few others will show up in recipes I’ve got coming.
I started by making sugar cookies with heart cutters. I have a billion cookie cutters on hand. They aren’t expensive, and you can buy 101 Piece Cookie Cutter Set for like $15. (Amazon affiliate link!) All these heart shapes came from that set. I had fun with this, making a few cutouts in the bigger hearts, using the smaller ones.
These fun shapes and cutouts make for more options than just the typical sugar cookie. And if you don’t have the baking chips, sprinkles or other toppers will do nicely.
Just make sure you put the decor on while the icing is still wet. Even so, I did have some shedding. Which just means tasty bits for me to eat. Yum!
