Last weekend I had a fabulous time in Austin, Texas for the Re:Write Conference. I spent two days holed up in a hotel with fabulous writers, getting inspired to get home and write. Which sort of translated to: get home and try to write but have my kids dump water on my laptop and also not nap, ever. Reality, people.
While in Austin, I had every intent on sticking to Nutrisystem and eating healthy on the run, at least for the most part. Beforehand, I spoke with my counselor to get her tips and made my own plan. I packed enough breakfasts and lunches, but figured I would snack in the car (road trip without snacks? NO.) and have dinners out. My plan half worked. As in, I ate dinners out and snacked in the car…but didn’t do the half where I ate my packed Nutrisystem foods. Knowing is half the battle, but the other half is DOING IT.
In the spirit of doing it, here are some tips for eating healthy when you are out of town or at social events.
How to Eat Healthy on the Run!
-Make a plan and commit to it before you go.
-Eat healthy snacks before the meal/event so you come in a little full.
-Get some exercise in that day to help balance calorie intake.
-Fill up with the healthy choices.
-Watch your portion control.
-Be social! It’s hard to eat and talk.
-Don’t feel like because you have one heavy meal, you’ve blown it and can restart Monday.
-Bring your own healthy foods.
Because I ate totally off the grid for those two days, I didn’t lost two pounds…that I first gained back. But the good news is that even though I haven’t moved down, I haven’t gone up. I’m about making lifestyle changes and choices. Though I would like to see fast results, I know that if I stay consistent and keep moving through time, I will KEEP the weight off. In the past when I have rushed to diet or tried to do a weight-loss crash course, I often wasn’t creating healthy, lasting habits, so I ended up right back where I started a month or two later. I’ve been doing Nutrisystem almost two months and have lost and kept off between 15-18 pounds.
