I’ve done a month of Nutrisystem! One month of anything is worth celebrating, don’t you think? One of these days I’ll post a new picture, but the reality is that I stayed up late painting our living room (I love painting while Rob is gone so he comes home to a new house) and I don’t feel like cleaning up enough to take a picture. But I lost another 2 pounds last week bringing in my grand total for month 1 at 12 pounds! Yay! That’s basically a third of what I want to lose, so I’m stoked. Plus this is the longest I’ve stuck to any plan. Three cheers for longevity!
I have some great snack ideas for Nutrisystem (or really ANY healthy eating plan), but they aren’t photographed yet, so I thought this week I would share my favorite Nutrisystem foods. You have the option to pick your foods or take the most popular. With my plan, I’m getting the most popular, which is good because I’m trying things I probably wouldn’t order otherwise and being happily surprised. in my opinion, these are the best foods to order from Nutrisystem. I’m putting a little star by the frozen foods just to show you how many of my favorites are frozen! It’s definitely worth it to get the frozen option because there are great foods in that list!
This will vary depending on what you normally like, but I am a protein-in-the-morning kind of girl. Even if the muffins and such have protein in them (they do), I WANT to eat eggs. Mentally. So my abs0lute favorites are the frozen omelets. But all the muffins are amazing (especially the double chocolate ones) and I really like the waffles or french toast with an egg on top. (Because eggs are part of the power fuel foods, I combine them with the breakfast!) My faves:
Double Chocolate Muffin
Honey Wheat Bagel
Thick Sliced French Toast*Blueberry Lemon Bar
Turkey, Ham, & Cheese Omelet*
Cinnamon Bun (or Cinnamon Roll*)
I am such a carb girl. So the pastas and the frozen quesadillas or the melts are my favorite. I don’t love the bars, not because they don’t taste good (they are delicious!), but because eating a bar for lunch FEELS like dieting. Mentally. I want real food, even if the bars make me full. That being said, the bars are great for being on the run! Several times they have kept me from picking up a drive-thru meal or something when I had one stashed in my purse. My faves:
Beef, Cheese, & Bean Burrito*
Chicken Fajita Melt*
Chicken and Cheese Quesadilla*
Chicken Parmesan Melt*
Chicken Parmesan Pasta
Just like with lunch, I’m a carb girl. I love all the pastas! Some of the frozen meals are really nice as well because they have fresh veggies, which I love. You can always add your own veggies to any meal (in fact, that’s ENCOURAGED!), but when I’m wrangling four little people and my hubby, I love the ease to get everything in one meal ready for me without any extra work. Here are my faves:
Any of the pizzas (some are frozen, some not. ALL are good)
Lasagne with Mean Sauce
Ravioli in Basil Tomato Sauce
The hardest part for me is choosing between snack and dessert. Each day you get one, but that means choosing between sweet and savory and I like BOTH! So here are my favorites from this category as a whole. You can make your own choice between savory and sweet! But take this to heart: when you eat the Red Velvet Whoopie Pie, you will definitely NOT feel like you are dieting!
Red Velvet Whoopie Pie*
Chocolate Brownie Sundae*
Honey Mustard Pretzel Bits
Peppermint Cookie Patty
Zesty Herb Snack Mix
Milk Chocolate Flavored Pretzels
Looking at that list, does it sound like a diet? Nope. The key, really, is portion control and ingredients. There is more fiber and more protein even in the things that don’t SOUND as healthy—like the Double Chocolate Muffin for breakfast. I think that I’m learning how to see portions and correct sized through eating this way so that when I’m done, I’ll know what feels like the right sized meal.
I hope this helps if you are considering Nutrisystem. Definitely pick your own foods and go for the frozen meals as well because so many of them are good!
