In exchange for promoting the Celebrations Holiday Gift Market, I am receiving two gift certificates to shop at the market. All opinions are my own, and you better believe I will be there!
Once upon a time, I used to go every year to a holiday gift market in Houston with either Rob’s mom or my mom (and I think one year, both). We would peruse the booths of beautiful things, buy a few Christmas gifts (mostly I just looked), and every single time bought a fancy caramel apple from a special booth. Even though I bought very little, the market itself was so fun for browsing and tasting and just getting a kickstart to the holiday season.
Slowly, this gift market became more expensive, more of a hassle, and more crowded. The last time I went, I was about six months pregnant. Visible, for sure. You generally feel large when you are pregnant, bulky even sometimes, but in the midst of an overcrowded shopping market with too many women carrying too many bags. I began to get jostled a little. Someone elbowed past me. A woman bumped me to get a better look at a purse. And then someone hit me in the belly with a shopping bag. REALLY??
I vowed that I would NEVER set food in that place again. It wasn’t worth paying $10 to get in, $10 to park all for a caramel apple that was also close to $10. Thirty bucks to have a mob of shopping women bang into my baby belly. Nope. I’m not going to name names, but if you live in Houston, you KNOW what holiday gift market I’m talking about. And we have broken up.
This year I’m staying local and hitting up the Celebrations Holiday Gift Market in Katy. Here are three reasons you should avoid that OTHER market and come to Celebrations.
1. FREE. No cost to park, no cost to get in. Free. FREE. Since you’re paying to shop, shouldn’t it BE free? Yes, I think that should be a general expectation. But the reality is that many of these markets charge and entry fee. Avoid the entry fee and hit up Celebrations Gift Market.
2. High quality, unique gifts. Something that bothered me about that OTHER gift market was the fact that so many of the vendors were from states away. It was not local. It was not all Texas. Many vendors were from other states, were corporate, and were selling items made overseas. REALLY? It seems the point of shopping in an intimate gift market is to find one-of-a-kind gifts. You will find them here!
3. No shopping malls. Not that I’m totally against the malls. But I try to avoid them whenever possible. Shopping at a smaller gift market gives you a totally different feel to shopping. This is why I always used to enjoy going with my mom and with Lynn, even if all I bought was a caramel apple. The shopping itself was an EVENT. You don’t get that in a mall. You just don’t.
It’s only a few days away! Make your plans and grab your mom or daughter to shop! In the case you miss this weekend, you can shop the Home for the Holidays Market at the Merrell Center in Katy.
