Over six years ago, I wrote my first blog post for I Still Hate Pickles. A blog that was about pregnancy and family. A blog in which I hoped to help family and friends who were far away experience and understand what I was thinking by planning a birth in my house rather than a hospital. (And a blog that later explained how that didn’t work out after all.)
The years have shifted me and shifted my blog. I realized that since I am a writer, my blog could actually be a tool to that end. (DUH!) And as my kids grow, in some ways I’m a little more reticent to post five million photos. Not that I won’t ever post them and not that I won’t use their real names, but this isn’t just a mommy blog anymore because I’m not just a mommy. But I am a mommy, so this post goes back to my roots: up close and personal in my life and the lives of my kids.
Up top we’ve got Lincoln’s birthday. We also hit up the rodeo, where Sawyer rode a sheep (called mutton bustin) like a champ.
He’s been waiting to do this since he was two. No lie. Asking every year and training on Rob and random inanimate objects. I’m not surprised that he rocked it. Of COURSE he rocked it. It’s his lifelong dream. (In his very short life.) We also tried some “leash alternatives” to keep track of the boys at the rodeo. And of course we ate rodeo food. Sausage on a stick, baby. And deep fried cookie dough. We also spent some time outside at parks as the weather (finally) begins to warm up. And I caught a glimpse of how my kids will look as they grow older. This is what is happening besides the frantic search for a home (T minus 4 weeks til we have no home) and the making of jalapeno polenta and the cooking of a baby in my belly (which I sometimes forget about with everything else going on). Despite all the smiles and the fact that I LOVE my family, it’s been a challenging time in terms of attitudes and obedience and just about everything else. My soul is exhausted.
What is happening in your life this week and this spring?
I’m linking up with Not So (Small) Stories this week, where bloggers read about writing and write within community. Come read or join in!
