This month is probably the most absent month I’ve ever had from blogging. This includes the three different times I’ve had babies. It feels very awkward to me—I have this kind of perpetual feeling like there is a pot burning on the stove that I’ve forgotten. And yet, in losing my blog a little bit, I’ve been living more.
Time with Family
We have great morning plans with my family for Christmas morning, but have been spending a lot of time with Rob’s family since there are some people in town who normally are far away. (Have I mentioned Rob has six siblings?) My boys LOVE their cousins and Cooper is learning this family rhythm of loud and wild. Playing Transformer Tag (a game Rob and his brothers invented and passed on to the next generation) in the woods for hours, creating worlds with Legos, and ninja fights on the trampoline. Lynn has been feeling well in her first intense week of chemo, and we are all soaking in that time with her.
My boys have a love affair going with my parents’ Nutcrackers. They may or may not have broken every one that they’ve come in contact with—that’s how much they love them. That hard, boy kind of love. They also may not have understood that “nutcracker” means they are meant to crack nuts…not potato chips.
I have LOVED the things the boys came home with this year from school and church. They made moose, mangers, and wreaths with mangers. Lincoln also came home with this ornament, which is MY FAVORITE OF ALL TIME. And that says a lot.
Sugar Cookie Overdose
I have overdosed both in eating and making these sugar cookies—not necessarily in that order. I have posted a sugar cookie recipe and also tips and tricks for working with royal icing. If you find yourself in a baking mode, check those out! I love doing these…but I’m also so glad to be done. If you want to play a fun game, try to note all the different cookie cutters in the photo.
