You know, the other day I had a thought, which is fairly logical. It is this: we should be thankful EVERY day of the year, and rename this holiday EatTooMuchThenGoShopping. Makes sense, right?
I am looking forward to eating two Thanksgiving meals and then slipping into a coma. But I will not go shopping. Not this year. Have you ever done the real Black Friday shopping? I did one time: to get my first digital camera. It must have been a really good deal, because we went to Best Buy at 4am and stood in line. They did a great job with their Black Friday management. Other than one family who pretended not to speak English and cut the line to climb under the table and steal gifts that people had vouchers for, it was generally not insane.
Unlike Walmart last night, which was crazzzzy. The lines weren’t so bad, but the store was so packed you could hardly move. I’m shocked I didn’t witness more cart-rage incidents. The funny part was that my checkout line moved so quickly that I waited only about five minutes with my five items—until the cashier had to ring up my celery. I am not sure how this is even possible, but she couldn’t ring it up. Celery. A produce item they had sold probably a thousand units of in the past 24 hours. She had to call a MANAGER. I am for real. The kicker was the amount of change I got back: $6.66. It’s a sign: avoid Walmart.
Speaking of shopping, I am SO excited that you can now order FOUR of my books on Amazon! And in a few days, my advent devotional, Make Him Room, will have a print copy via Createspace. I’m going to be having sales on all four of my books, and if you wanted a Kindle version of Church Isn’t Cute (the book that’s free with my email subscription—sign up for yours!) I will update you (or inundate you) with sale information as I’ll be having some specials this weekend.
This weekend also kicks off the advent project I am SO excited about: Voices in the Desert. I’ve enlisted 23 other bloggers who will each be writing a post about advent. Every day until Christmas, you can read some reflections from diverse voices. It’s going to be so fabulous, and I can’t wait to see what people have to say.
With that, Happy EatTooMuchThenGoShopping Day, aka Thanksgiving.
